It is intended to promote safety and provide an added layer of security during in-person exchanges.

“Adopt a Bus” Program begins Oct. 12

Robbinsville Public Schools and the Robbinsville Township Police Department are pleased to share a new school bus safety initiative.

Through the “Adopt a Bus” program, police officers and command staff will be assigned to individual school bus routes and will follow those routes periodically throughout the school year.

The “Adopt a Bus” initiative will begin Monday, October 12, and will continue at various times throughout the school year.

The goal of the initiative is to promote student safety, increase awareness around school bus safety laws, and provide an additional law enforcement presence along our students’ daily routes. Officers will be monitoring for careless driving and violations of laws designed to protect students as they board and exit school buses.

A reminder to all motorists: When a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, you must STOP.

Know the Law

* Stop at least 25 feet away from a school bus displaying flashing red lights with its stop arm extended.
* On a divided highway with a median or barrier, motorists are required to stop only when traveling on the same side of the roadway as the bus.
* Flashing amber/yellow lights mean slow down and prepare to stop.

Goal Zero October Honors Kimberly Smith Ames

This month’s Goal Zero Initiative will be held in remembrance of Kimberly Smith Ames and her unborn child, who were tragically killed by a drunk driver on October 7, 1998.
This year, October 7 falls on a Wednesday, just as it did 28 years ago.
The Robbinsville Township Police Department will be participating in this month’s Goal Zero campaign to honor Kimberly and her unborn child while helping spread awareness about the devastating consequences of impaired driving.
If you drink, don’t drive. If you plan to drink, plan for a safe ride home. One decision can change a life forever.
Please help us remember Kimberly and her unborn child by making the commitment to Drive Sober. Get Home Safe.
