Chief William G. Swanhart III
Chief William Swanhart was hired by the Robbinsville Township Police Department in December of 2006 and graduated the Burlington County Police Academy Class # 87. Prior to his appointment with the Robbinsville Township Police Department, he worked for New Jersey Transit Police. Chief Swanhart served as a patrolman and was also in the Traffic Unit until 2012. In October of 2012, Chief Swanhart was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit. In July of 2013, Lieutenant Swanhart was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where he was assigned supervision of the Criminal Investigation’s Unit. Chief Swanhart was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in July of 2016 and assigned to the Criminal Investigation’s Unit.
In 2022, Chief Swanhart was assigned to the position of Administrative Lieutenant, where his current duties are oversight of the department’s Internal Affairs function, Public Information Officer, Field Training Officer Program, Traffic Unit, and School Resource Officers.
During his career with the Robbinsville Township Police Department Chief William Swanhart was a Drug Recognition Expert, Evidence Custodian, Internal Affairs Officer, Department Training Coordinator, member of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Task Force, and worked with various federal, county, and local law enforcement partners.
In 2010, Chief Swanhart received the State of New Jersey Highway Traffic Safety Top Gun DWI Enforcement award. In 2014 and 2015, Chief Swanhart received training from the United States Secret Service in Hoover, Alabama involving computer forensics. Chief William Swanhart graduated the FBI-LEEDA Law Enforcement Development Course in 2017. Chief Swanhart graduated the FBI National Academy in 2023, Session 285.Chief Swanhart was assigned as the Accreditation Manager for the agency, and helped achieve the Departments first Accreditation from the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police Association.
Chief Swanhart grew up in the Mercer County area and graduated from Notre Dame High School 1999. In 2003 Chief Swanhart graduated with a Criminal Justice Degree from Kutztown University and has obtained his Masters Certificate from the University of Virginia.
